Wanda’s curiosity was piqued, but she didn’t ask immediately. She quietly watched Carlisle, sensing the tension in his demeanor. She had a vague idea about her uncle’s company, Islo Clothing, but it had never occurred to her that Carlisle might be interested in it.
Carlisle was lost in thought, wondering how to get a direct line to the chairman. He could feel the pressure mounting, knowing that Islo Clothing’s collapse was inevitable and that the window of opportunity was closing fast. Time was running out.
He quickly shifted his focus back to the present, noticing Wanda watching him out of the corner of her eye. Her gaze felt sharp, almost as if she were trying to figure something out, but she said nothing. Instead, she went back to her book, as if she hadn’t seen the message.
Carlisle took a deep breath, trying to ignore the nagging feeling that Wanda might eventually ask him about Islo Clothing. It wasn’t something he could explain easily, especially not to someone he was still getting to know.
Just then, the professor entered the room, and the class settled down. Carlisle pulled out his notebook, but his mind kept drifting back to Islo Clothing and how to navigate the situation.
As the lecture progressed, he noticed Christine was unusually quiet, not even raising her hand to answer questions. Her eyes seemed distant, and a few times, she shot glances at him that he couldn’t quite interpret. It made him wonder if his earlier message to her had caused some discomfort. She had always been an eager participant in class, and now her sudden change in behavior seemed out of place.
When class ended, Carlisle gathered his things and walked out with Wanda. He hesitated for a moment before deciding to bring up Islo Clothing. The sooner she knew, the better.
“Wanda, about the company… Islo Clothing,” he began carefully, watching her closely for any signs of surprise. “Is it your uncle’s business?”
Wanda stopped in her tracks for a second, surprised by the sudden shift in topic. She looked at him with a raised eyebrow, a slight tension creeping into her posture. “Yes… it is. Why do you ask?”
Carlisle hesitated, unsure of how to proceed. He didn’t want to directly involve her in something that could be dangerous for her or her family, but at the same time, he needed information. “I was just curious. I’ve been hearing some things about the company, and I thought maybe you could help me understand a bit more about it.”
Wanda looked at him skeptically, her expression guarded. “What do you mean? What have you been hearing?”
Before Carlisle could respond, his phone buzzed again. He looked down to see Sean’s message, informing him that his father had suggested trying to reach out to a middleman, but it was still proving difficult.
Wanda noticed the message and raised an eyebrow. “You’re still trying to reach Islo Clothing?”
Carlisle felt a knot tighten in his chest. “Yeah. It’s… complicated.”
Wanda crossed her arms, looking more concerned now. “If it’s that important, maybe you should let me know what you’re really after, Carlisle.”
He paused, considering her words. He wasn’t sure how much to tell her. What if she found out too much? But what if this was an opportunity to get closer to the truth?
“I just need to know who’s in charge,” he said, his voice low. “There’s something going on with the company, and I need to understand how it works.”
Wanda stared at him for a moment, her expression unreadable. Finally, she let out a sigh. “I can’t promise anything, but I’ll ask around.”
Carlisle nodded, relieved. “Thanks, Wanda. I really appreciate it.”
She gave him a small, uncertain smile. “Just… be careful, okay?”
As they parted ways, Carlisle’s mind was still swirling. Was he making the right move? Was it worth involving Wanda in this mess, or would it backfire?
All he knew was that he had to act fast, and now he had a potential ally in Wanda.
