Chapter 36
What troubled Catherine the most was that she didn’t even have the strength to remove her pants. In the end, she had no choice but to ask Shaun for help.
By the time she was back in bed, thoroughly embarrassed, she quickly buried herself under the blanket, avoiding his gaze. Deep down, Shaun found it strangely amusing. He even wondered if she had been feigning shamelessness when she had flirted with him before.
An hour later, Shaun found a caregiver for Catherine. However, by that time, she had already fallen asleep. He still had a lawsuit to deal with the next morning and hadn’t prepared the necessary documents. After giving the caregiver some instructions, he left.
In the middle of the night, Catherine awoke to find a gentle-looking woman, probably in her 40s, sitting on the edge of the couch. When the woman noticed Catherine stirring, she woke up and explained softly, “I’m the caregiver Mr. Hill hired to take care of you.”
Catherine blinked in confusion. “Oh.”
She was momentarily stunned. She had asked him to find a caregiver, but now that he had actually done it, she felt a small pang of disappointment. After all, he was the partner listed on her marriage certificate. He could’ve stayed to accompany her.
However, she quickly dismissed the thought. After all, they weren’t bound by the contract anymore, and he wasn’t in love with her. The fact that he’d sent her to the hospital and even fed her earlier was more than enough.
The caregiver, noticing her quiet demeanor, spoke with a laugh. “Mr. Hill is very concerned about you. He stayed until 11 o’clock last night. He even told me not to fall asleep since you might wake up. He also made sure the head chef at the hospital prepared three nutritious meals for you.”
Catherine blinked again, feeling as though she were still in a dream. The way the caregiver described Shaun was completely different from how he usually acted.
The caregiver continued, “I’ve seen all kinds of families in the hospital, but Mr. Hill… He’s tough on the outside, but soft on the inside.”
Catherine’s mind wandered, recalling how Shaun had appeared last night to save her. She had to admit, despite his usual cold demeanor, he had been surprisingly gentle.
The next morning, after a check-up, Catherine returned to her room and was surprised to find two people there—Shaun and Henry.
Henry was badly bruised, his body trembling. As soon as he saw Catherine, he dropped to his knees. “Sorry, Miss Jones. I was blinded by money. Rebecca paid me 500,000 dollars to steal your design. It’s my fault. Please forgive me.”
He was shaking in fear. Meanwhile, Catherine’s anger flared, and though she didn’t have the energy to do anything physical, she could feel her rage building inside her.
“Forgive you?” Catherine’s voice trembled with fury. “Do you know what you’ve done? You’ve ruined my reputation and my dignity as a designer. Someone like you has no right to call yourself a designer.”
Henry’s head stayed lowered as he trembled. “Yes, I’m not qualified,” he murmured, voice full of regret. “That’s why I can’t design anymore.”
Catherine’s eyes widened, noticing his bandaged wrists. “Your hands…?”
Shaun slowly stood up, his tone indifferent. “Since he’s chosen to be a thief instead of a designer, he’ll never design again.”
Henry shuddered and crawled on the floor, clearly terrified. Catherine realized that Henry, who had always been arrogant, must have experienced something terrifying the night before. It was clear that Shaun had played a part in his current state.
She felt no sympathy for Henry. After all, he hadn’t even considered her situation when he had stolen her work.
“Well, you got what you deserved. Hopefully, this will teach you to be a better person,” Catherine said, her voice cold.
Henry nodded frantically, his voice pleading. “I won’t do it again. I’ll leave Melbourne and never show up in front of you again.”
Shaun sneered. “Get lost.”
Once Henry had left, Shaun tossed a new phone into Catherine’s hands. “Here. I’ll get someone to transfer your contacts.”
