Chapter 65
Catherine stood there, her mind racing with the store manager’s words. Was it possible that Shaun, despite his cold demeanor and stern personality, actually cared about her in a way she hadn’t fully realized? The thought made her pulse quicken, but there was a part of her that remained hesitant, unsure of what his true feelings were.
Shaun had always been hard to read. At times, he could be distant and controlling, while other times, he seemed to show glimpses of care and attention—like when he’d picked her up earlier and watched her so closely. But was it enough to say that he had romantic feelings for her, or was it simply a matter of possessiveness?
Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of Shaun’s voice echoing from the stairs below. “Are you coming down, or not?”
Catherine quickly nodded and started toward the dressing room. She couldn’t help but feel a little embarrassed, still uncertain about whether she was overthinking things. After all, how could she ever know for sure what was really in his heart?
As she changed into something more modest, the words of the store manager lingered in her mind. Was this the beginning of something more? Or was she just getting caught up in a fleeting moment of hope?
When she finally emerged from the room, she found Shaun waiting by the door, his expression unreadable as usual. But as their eyes met, something shifted. For a brief moment, she saw a flicker of something deeper in his gaze—a flicker that made her heart race.
“Let’s go,” Shaun said curtly, his tone still cool but with a hint of something else she couldn’t quite place.
Catherine followed him down the stairs, her mind still tangled in uncertainty. As they stepped outside, she couldn’t help but wonder what the future held for them—if there was even a future to speak of. All she knew was that, for now, the only thing she could do was keep moving forward and hope that whatever feelings she had for Shaun would one day be returned in full.
For now, though, she had to face the reality of the night ahead—a night that would hopefully bring some clarity to their complicated relationship.
