Chapter 93
Catherine’s actions were now at the forefront of everyone’s minds, especially Ethan’s, and he was struggling to contain the fury building inside him. What had started as a simple family engagement ceremony had quickly spiraled into a scandal that no one could ignore. And now, all he could think about was how to make Catherine pay for the humiliation she had caused.
As he stood there, simmering with rage, he couldn’t shake the thought that he had underestimated Catherine’s resolve. He had believed her to be weak, someone easily manipulated, but now it was clear that she had no intention of letting herself be controlled. She was standing up for herself, and that realization gnawed at him like a poison.
Meanwhile, Rebecca’s attempts to console Ethan were futile. Her gentle caresses and concerned words only seemed to push him further away, his mind consumed by thoughts of revenge. She had tried so hard to make everything perfect for him, but now, in his eyes, nothing would be enough to fix the damage Catherine had done.
Sally, too, was livid. Her words about Catherine’s ingratitude were bitter, and she made it clear that she had no sympathy for the woman who had been part of their family for so many years. Catherine’s supposed betrayal had tarnished their reputation, and that was something Sally couldn’t easily forgive.
Ethan, however, was no longer willing to place blame solely on Catherine. His frustration had led him to question those around him, and now his suspicions were turning toward Rebecca. He could see her defensiveness, the way she trembled under his gaze. Could it be that she had something to do with the photos being swapped? He couldn’t ignore the possibility, even if it meant doubting someone he had once trusted implicitly.
But even as his mind spun with doubt, Ethan was still reluctant to truly believe Rebecca could be involved. His grip on reality was slipping as his emotions overtook his reason. The scene played out in his mind over and over—the photos, the accusations, the whispers in the hall. He couldn’t keep up with all the shifting alliances, and his desperation to regain control of the situation made him turn to darker thoughts.
Sally’s voice snapped him back to the present. “It’s not your fault,” she said, trying to reassure him. “Catherine’s the one who’s to blame. We’ll make her pay for this, don’t worry.”
Ethan’s gaze darkened as he mulled over the next steps. “I’ll make sure she regrets this,” he muttered under his breath, his eyes narrowing in determination. “I know she’s involved with my uncle’s villa project. If she thinks she can humiliate me and walk away unscathed, she’s wrong.”
Rebecca’s faint smile faltered as she looked at Ethan. She had tried to be understanding, but now she couldn’t help but feel the distance between them growing wider. She didn’t know what had changed in him, but something was different. His desire for revenge seemed to outweigh his concern for her.
As Ethan’s mind fixated on punishing Catherine, a dangerous resolve settled in his heart. He would stop at nothing to make sure she paid for what she had done—even if it meant sacrificing everything in the process. The once-weak Catherine was now his enemy, and he would use all of his resources to bring her down.
But little did he know, Catherine was no longer the woman he had once controlled. She had learned to fight back, to stand up for herself. And no matter what Ethan or anyone else had planned, she was ready to face whatever came her way.
