Chapter 32
“Who are you?” Zayn scrambled up in a panic, his voice trembling with fear.
Shaun’s disgust was palpable as he looked at Zayn’s bloated, repulsive body. His eyes flicked to Catherine, whose face was flushed with distress, her shirt torn in half. The sight ignited a fire of rage inside him.
Without hesitation, Shaun lunged forward, delivering a brutal punch to Zayn’s face. “The person who’s sending you to jail,” he growled.
Zayn crumpled to the ground, overwhelmed by the sheer force of the blow. Shaun didn’t waste a moment. He ripped the cameras from their positions, throwing them at Zayn with cold fury. He then quickly stripped off his suit and wrapped it around Catherine, trying to shield her from further harm.
“Catherine, how are you feeling?” Shaun asked softly, his voice tinged with concern. He hesitated to touch her swollen face, opting instead to pat her gently on the back.
“Don’t… don’t touch me,” Catherine whispered, still groggy. The feeling of someone reaching for her triggered an instinctive, fearful reaction. Her lips quivered in resistance, and tears streamed down her face.
In the past, Catherine had always been confident, beautiful, and playful. She had often frustrated Shaun, but seeing her in this vulnerable, broken state stirred something deep within him. He couldn’t help but feel a mixture of anger at her recklessness and pity for her suffering.
“Don’t be afraid. It’s me. No one will hurt you,” Shaun said softly, brushing a strand of hair from her face.
The familiar scent of his cologne, warm and masculine, reached her senses, offering her a small comfort in her confusion. Slowly, her dazed eyes began to clear, and she became aware of the man in front of her.
“Shaunny… am I dreaming?” she murmured, her voice faint, as though unable to comprehend that someone had come to save her.
“This isn’t a dream. You’ll be fine,” Shaun reassured her, gently wiping away the tears from her cheeks. Just as he did, a commotion behind him caught his attention.
Turning swiftly, Shaun saw Zayn, struggling to stand and trying to flee. His eyes narrowed with cold determination. “Wait here,” he told Catherine, lowering her gently to the bed. His voice dropped into a dangerous tone. “What did you do to her just now?”
Zayn was paralyzed with fear, his knees buckling. As he attempted to escape, a chair crashed into him from behind, knocking him to the ground. Unable to move, Zayn could only watch in terror as Shaun approached him, his towering figure casting a shadow over him.
“I didn’t touch her!” Zayn babbled desperately. “You came when I was just about to tear her clothes. I swear, I didn’t touch her!”
Shaun’s expression darkened with rage. “You hit her, didn’t you?”
Without waiting for an answer, Shaun grabbed Zayn, lifting him off the ground with ease. He slapped him hard across the face, the sound echoing in the room. Zayn’s once-pale, chubby face bloomed with an angry red swell.
Shaun’s voice was cold with fury. “It’s thanks to you that I slapped someone for the first time.”
Before he could do further damage, the sound of police officers arriving filled the air. They quickly restrained Zayn and began to arrest him.
Catherine, still weak and in a daze, watched the unfolding scene. When Shaun turned back to her, she forced a faint smile. But the effort was too much. Her vision darkened, and she lost consciousness, her body crumpling as she fainted.
Shaun wasted no time, scooping her up into his arms. “Chase!” he called, his voice harsh. “Get to the bottom of what happened tonight. I don’t want to see that man again.”
Chase, who had just arrived, was taken aback by the sight. “Is she… okay?” he asked, his voice filled with concern.
Shaun’s jaw clenched as he nodded curtly. “Just find out what happened, and don’t let me see him again.”
With that, Shaun rushed out, carrying Catherine as he headed straight for the hospital, his face set with grim determination.
Janet’s heart sank as she watched the live video suddenly cut off. The figure that had appeared in the video, just before everything went dark, seemed eerily familiar. It was the same man she had seen at Grapefruit Restaurant a while ago.
Her suspicion grew, and she had someone investigate the man. To her surprise, he was only a lawyer.
