Chapter 35
After finishing a bowl of rice, Catherine lay back down with Shaun’s assistance. “That… Have you seen my phone?” she asked weakly, her voice barely above a whisper.
Shaun glanced at her, his expression unreadable. “No, I haven’t. Someone probably threw it away after you fainted. I’ll buy you a new one later.”
As soon as Shaun finished speaking, his phone rang, interrupting the conversation. He walked out of the room to take the call and found Hadley waiting for him outside.
“Young Master Hill,” Hadley greeted, his tone professional yet cautious. “I’ve investigated the issue regarding the bidding. I heard that when the designer from Summit, Rebecca Jones, introduced her masterpiece during the event yesterday, Miss Jones claimed in a fit of agitation that Rebecca had stolen her design.”
Shaun’s brow furrowed in surprise. “Was there such a thing?”
“President Sawyer asked Miss Jones to provide evidence, but she claimed the evidence was stored in her laptop, only to later say it had been destroyed. She also accused Henry Moore from Imperial Design of being behind it, despite not having any proof. She had a public fallout with Imperial Design and was dragged out of the venue.”
“Dragged out?” Shaun repeated, his voice tinged with disbelief.
“Yes,” Hadley confirmed. “Having worked with you for years, I can tell this news has your blood boiling.”
Shaun’s jaw tightened. “What design did Summit showcase yesterday?”
Hadley quickly retrieved a photo and handed his phone to Shaun. After a quick glance, Shaun’s face hardened with a cold fury. He had seen Catherine’s design before, and it was identical to Rebecca’s.
It all clicked into place. No wonder Catherine had seemed so upset when she returned yesterday. She was holding a grudge—against him, no less. The unfair bidding event had undoubtedly weighed heavily on her.
He let out a low sigh, returning the phone to Hadley. “I suspect President Sawyer has pulled similar stunts in the past. It’s time we expose them.”
Hadley nodded quickly, understanding the implication. “Got it. Since President Sawyer is likely to lose his position, the collaboration project with Summit and Melbourne Culture and Technology Center…”
“Cancel it,” Shaun interrupted coldly. “Block any companies that are planning to work with Summit. As for Rebecca… stir things up for her.”
Hadley gave a knowing smile. “Understood. If the bidding event is reorganized, will Miss Jones handle the project? Although, Imperial Design has fired her.”
Shaun scoffed. “Forget about the project. She can design, but managing such a complex task from Imperial Design is beyond her capabilities.” He sneered. “Bring Henry here.”
When Shaun returned to the ward, he found Catherine struggling to sit up in bed. She froze the moment she saw him enter.
“What are you trying to do?” he asked, his voice unusually gentle, though his eyes hinted at concern.
Catherine’s face lit up with hope. “Can you get me a caregiver? I’ll pay her.”
Shaun raised an eyebrow with a playful glint in his eye. “Are you planning to go to the restroom?”
Catherine’s face turned red with embarrassment as he had clearly seen through her intentions. Before she could respond, Shaun moved closer, pulling the blanket off her and effortlessly lifting her up.
She gasped in surprise, instinctively wrapping her arms around his neck. “Put me down now!” she demanded.
Shaun smirked, his grip firm. “Fine. If you’re so determined, then you can go on your own.”
Without warning, he let go of her, and Catherine stumbled, tottering precariously. She fell into his arms, her face flushing with embarrassment. She mumbled his name softly, “Shaun…”
He chuckled lightly, clearly amused by her sudden vulnerability. “You’re the one who fell into my arms.”
Catherine, her cheeks burning with humiliation, didn’t know how to respond. She was both irritated and helpless at the same time. This man seemed to find joy in making her uncomfortable.
“Fine,” Shaun said after a beat, his voice no longer teasing. “I’ll take you to the restroom.”
Catherine, feeling defeated, sighed deeply. “I told you to just get me a caregiver.”
Shaun raised an eyebrow, his expression mocking. “Do you really think I can get you a caregiver immediately?” He continued, his tone dripping with sarcasm as he placed her gently on the toilet seat.
