Chapter 86
The tension in the room was unbearable as Catherine’s words sank deep into the atmosphere, each sentence a sharp jab that landed squarely on Ethan and the others in the room.
Ethan froze, the shock of Catherine’s revelations hitting him like a thunderclap. His face turned pale, and his hand, which had reached out to grab her, fell limp at his side. He couldn’t believe she had gone this far.
Rebecca, who had been trying to maintain her composure, now looked like she had seen a ghost. Her hands clenched into fists, and the color drained from her face as Catherine’s words peeled back the layers of deceit she had carefully constructed.
The guests, who had been stunned into silence by the audio messages, began murmuring amongst themselves. The whispers grew louder as the realization dawned on them: Ethan and Catherine had been more than just childhood friends. They had been in a secret relationship all this time.
Cindy, who had been smugly standing by Rebecca’s side, was visibly shaken. Catherine’s sharp gaze turned toward her. “Do you have anything to say, Cindy? You’ve been so quick to side with Rebecca, but I wonder—do you even know the truth?”
Cindy’s face reddened with embarrassment, her eyes flickering away from Catherine’s. “I… I don’t know what you’re talking about,” she stammered, her voice trembling slightly.
Catherine’s lips twisted into a knowing smile. “Of course, you don’t. You wouldn’t want your little secret to get out, would you?”
Wesley, who had been silent up until this point, stepped forward, his voice calm but firm. “Enough, everyone. This isn’t the place for this kind of spectacle. The truth is out, and the damage has been done.” His eyes swept across the room, his gaze lingering on Ethan. “If there’s any dignity left in this room, it’s time to move forward.”
Ethan’s hands trembled, and he finally spoke, his voice low and barely audible. “Catherine… I never meant for any of this to happen. I—”
But Catherine cut him off sharply. “Don’t you dare try to explain yourself. You made your choice, Ethan. You chose Rebecca, and you chose to lie. Don’t try to salvage it now.”
Her eyes turned cold, and she glanced at Rebecca once more. “As for you, Rebecca, you’ve always been so desperate to play the role of the perfect, elegant lady, but we all know the truth now. You’ve been living off other people’s sacrifices, and you’ve done nothing but play games.”
Rebecca opened her mouth to respond, but no words came out. The weight of Catherine’s accusations crushed her, and she could only stand there, defeated.
Catherine turned away from them, her back straight as she faced the rest of the room. “You’ve all been a part of this charade, and now you get to witness the truth.”
The guests sat in stunned silence, unsure of how to react. Some of them were visibly uncomfortable, while others exchanged looks of disbelief.
Wesley spoke up again, his voice calm but stern. “It’s clear that no one here is innocent, but it’s time to stop this madness. Let’s clear the air and leave behind this pathetic spectacle.”
Catherine didn’t wait for anyone’s response. She walked out of the hall, her head held high. Wesley followed her silently, offering a reassuring glance in her direction.
As they exited, the noise from the banquet hall seemed to fade away. The chaos, the deceit, and the humiliation were left behind, a mess for others to clean up. Catherine had done what she needed to do, and now, she could finally walk away from it all.
