Chapter 88
Catherine’s heart was racing as she drove, her mind filled with confusion and frustration. The revelation that Wesley was actually Ethan’s uncle had sent her spiraling, adding another layer of complexity to everything she had just uncovered. She barely registered the road as she sped through the streets, her thoughts a tangled mess. What did this mean for her, for Wesley, and for the entire web of lies that had been spun around her?
Freya’s teasing voice on the other end of the line only added fuel to the fire. “Oh, so you finally let the cat out of the bag? I heard you caused quite the scene back there,” Freya said, sounding amused. “I guess I should be proud of you, huh?”
Catherine didn’t have the patience for banter. “Stop messing around, Freya. I need to see you right now. This isn’t a joke anymore.”
Freya, sensing the seriousness in her tone, replied quickly, “Alright, I’ll be at the café in ten minutes. Come meet me.”
When Catherine arrived, she wasted no time finding Freya and dragging her to a quieter corner. She couldn’t hold it in any longer. “You were right about one thing,” Catherine began, her voice strained. “Wesley is Ethan’s uncle. But… what about Shaun Hill?”
Freya blinked, confused. “What do you mean? I thought we agreed that he was the one—”
Catherine cut her off, shaking her head. “No. I’ve just learned that Wesley is Ethan’s uncle. And Wesley has no clue about anyone named Shaun Hill. So, where does that leave us?”
Freya’s eyes widened as the realization dawned on her. “Wait… are you saying there’s no connection between Shaun and Ethan?”
“I don’t know,” Catherine muttered, a sense of dread creeping over her. “But something isn’t adding up. Freya, I need to know the truth. I can’t keep going like this.”
Freya sighed, her fingers tapping nervously on the table. “Alright, I’ll dig into this. But you have to promise me something—stay calm. The last thing we need right now is for you to lose control and make rash decisions.”
Catherine nodded, feeling the weight of the situation pressing down on her. As much as she wanted answers now, she knew Freya was right. She needed to stay focused, keep her wits about her, and figure out the truth—no matter what it took.
