Chapter 89
Freya watched her friend with concern as Catherine’s words lingered in the air. It was clear how much Catherine had been through, all the confusion, heartbreak, and regret. The idea of a divorce with Shaun seemed like an inevitable next step, but there was still a part of Catherine that hesitated. Despite everything Shaun had put her through, the finality of it all felt daunting.
“Look, you don’t have to do this alone,” Freya said softly, breaking the silence. “I’m here for you, every step of the way. And as for Wesley… maybe there’s a chance there. You never know.”
Catherine let out a tired laugh, her emotions running wild. “Wesley? He’s been kind to me, sure, but I’m still bound to this marriage. And besides, I don’t know if I’m ready to even think about moving forward. I’ve been through so much already.”
Freya nodded, understanding the weight of what Catherine had just said. “But don’t shut yourself off completely. Sometimes the right person is just waiting for you to take that first step.”
Catherine’s eyes softened, a flicker of something akin to hope crossing her face. “Maybe you’re right. Maybe I just need to take a step back and really think about what I want. But first… I need to take care of this mess with Shaun.”
With renewed determination, Catherine stood up, brushing off the weariness that had settled in her bones. “Alright. I’ll start the process. It’s time to take control of my life, and this chapter with Shaun needs to come to an end.”
Freya smiled warmly. “That’s the spirit. And as for the rest, well… we’ll take it one day at a time. You don’t have to have it all figured out right now.”
Catherine gave her a weak smile in return. “Thanks, Freya. I don’t know where I’d be without you.”
As they parted ways, Catherine’s mind was still racing, but there was a small seed of resolve planted in her heart. It wasn’t going to be easy, but for the first time in a long while, she felt like she had a chance at something better. And that, at least, was enough for now.
