Chapter 95
The tension in the air was palpable as Catherine calmly showed the footage to Wesley and his family. The security camera footage played out the whole sequence, catching the moment when Wesley’s personal assistant entered the villa after Builder John left and turned on the tap, leaving it running overnight.
Wesley’s face darkened as he watched the footage, the truth hitting him like a freight train. His assistant had been the one to cause the damage, but the bigger question was why. Was it an act of sabotage? And if so, who had ordered it?
Elder Lyons, still processing what he had seen, turned to his son with confusion. “Wesley, what’s the problem with your assistant?”
Wesley’s eyes narrowed as he absorbed the gravity of the situation. There was something off about all of this. His assistant wouldn’t have done something so reckless on his own. Someone had orchestrated this, and the realization gnawed at him. The only person who could have been behind this was closer than he would have liked to admit.
Catherine’s voice broke through his thoughts, smooth and calculating. “That’s right. Why would his assistant do this to set me up? Perhaps he had done so under someone else’s order.”
She shot a knowing glance at Sonya, who visibly stiffened under the scrutiny. “Aunty Sonya, what a coincidence to see all of you here early in the morning.”
Sonya’s lips twitched, her facade of calm cracking as she struggled for a response. Catherine’s words hung in the air like a challenge. Sonya knew she had been caught, but the question was how much longer she could keep up the charade.
Catherine had already taken control of the situation. The assistant’s actions were the proof she needed to expose the truth, and Sonya was now under suspicion. Catherine’s calm confidence contrasted sharply with the earlier chaos, making it clear that she was no longer the one at the mercy of this family’s manipulations.
Wesley shifted uncomfortably, his gaze flickering between Catherine and his mother. He didn’t want to believe it, but the evidence was in front of him. His assistant had been involved in the sabotage of Catherine’s project, and now he had to figure out how deep the deception went.
“Why did he do it?” Wesley asked, his voice barely above a whisper. “And who ordered him to?”
Catherine gave a small shrug, her eyes locked on Sonya. “I’m sure you can figure that out on your own, Wesley.”
Sonya’s face flushed with a mixture of anger and embarrassment. She had been too careful, too calculating, and yet Catherine had still outsmarted her at every turn. “You can’t possibly think I’m behind this,” she said through gritted teeth.
Catherine’s smile was icy, and her voice cut through the tension. “I’m not sure what’s worse, Aunty Sonya. That you tried to sabotage me, or that you thought you could get away with it.”
The room fell into a heavy silence, each person processing the moment in their own way. Wesley’s expression was grim, the disappointment in his eyes directed at the people who had been closest to him. It was clear that he was struggling to reconcile what he knew with what he had just witnessed.
Catherine, on the other hand, had already taken the upper hand. The tables had turned, and she was in control now.
