Chapter 52
Noel’s face immediately froze, her eyes widening slightly in shock. “Zoe York? Are you serious?” she asked, trying to mask her surprise, but Cordy could see right through her.
“Why? Do you have a problem with that?” Cordy asked calmly, leaning back in her chair and watching Noel carefully.
Noel quickly shook her head, attempting to regain her composure. “Of course not. It’s just… unexpected. Zoe is, well, a little… out there, you know? She’s not as polished as Tessa, and she doesn’t really have the same professional image. Wouldn’t that be a risk?”
Cordy smiled faintly, her eyes narrowing ever so slightly as she spoke. “Zoe’s boldness is exactly what we need. She’s got the looks, the confidence, and she attracts attention, which is what this brand needs right now. People are getting tired of the same safe choices. It’s time we shook things up.”
Noel bit her lip, clearly still not fully convinced, but unwilling to argue directly with Cordy. She had always been good at hiding her true feelings, and her respect for Cordy—albeit begrudging—meant she wouldn’t openly challenge her unless she had a solid reason. But Zoe York as a brand ambassador? That felt like a risky move, one that could either pay off spectacularly or backfire completely.
Cordy continued, her tone shifting from calm to assertive. “I need you to approach Zoe and negotiate the details. I’ll leave it to you to make sure we get her on board—make it happen, Noel. And don’t worry about any fallout. We’ll handle it.”
Noel’s jaw tightened, but she nodded. “Understood.”
As Noel left the office, Cordy watched her go with a knowing glance. She had a feeling that this move would stir the pot, but it would also force everyone to pay attention. And with Zoe York at the center of it, all eyes would be on Starstream.
Cordy wasn’t just playing the game—she was setting the stage to win.
Later that evening, after finishing a long day of meetings and overseeing the adjustments to the upcoming designs, Cordy decided to take a moment for herself. She needed to clear her head and process everything that had happened in the office. The designs, the sudden bonuses, the tension with Noel—there was a lot to handle, and it was only getting more complicated.
As she sat in her favorite lounge chair with a glass of wine, her phone buzzed. It was a message from John Levine. She hesitated for a moment, then opened it.
John: “I’m back in North City. When can I see you?”
Cordy couldn’t help but smile at the simplicity of the message. It was direct, just like him. But as much as she enjoyed his attention, she couldn’t afford to lose focus now. There was too much at stake, and she had made it clear to herself that no one—especially not John—could distract her from her goals.
Still, a part of her wanted to see him, to hear his voice, and maybe even get a glimpse of the man behind the business mogul.
She typed a response, keeping it short.
Cordy: “I’m busy with work. Let’s catch up soon.”
She set the phone down, took a sip of wine, and closed her eyes, trying to find some calm amid the storm that was brewing at Starstream. But deep down, she knew this was just the beginning. The real game was only getting started.
