Chapter 92
Cordy sat back in her chair, staring at the scandalous photos that now stained her reputation. Each image was a calculated blow, showing not just her alleged infidelities but the manipulations that had accompanied her ascent to power. Her affair with Kyle, once her ally, had now been twisted into a weapon aimed directly at her.
The timing couldn’t have been worse. The success of Starstream Fashion’s autumn collection was still fresh, the numbers were soaring, but now, everything seemed to hang on a knife’s edge. Her phone buzzed again, another message from her PR team, the stress palpable even through the digital words.
Vince remained silent, watching Cordy carefully. He had worked with her long enough to know when she was upset, but right now, her calm was unnerving. It was as if the scandal didn’t shake her at all.
“You’ve seen the backlash, right?” Vince finally broke the silence, his voice low.
Cordy didn’t look up, still scrolling through the malicious headlines. “I’ve seen it,” she replied simply.
“You need to address this,” he said, frustration creeping into his tone. “You need to tell the public your side before they ruin everything.”
Cordy’s lips twisted into a grim smile. “I don’t need to explain myself to anyone, Vince. Not anymore.”
He was taken aback. “But Cordy, your business—”
“I built this business on my own, Vince,” she interrupted, her tone sharp. “And I’ll rebuild it, too. What they don’t understand is that I’ve been through worse. This? It’s nothing.”
Her words were laced with a confidence that didn’t match the gravity of the situation, but it was precisely that steel resolve that had carried her this far. Vince had seen her fight tooth and nail before, but he couldn’t help but wonder how much she had left in her.
“You know what they’re saying, right? That you used Kyle, that you manipulated everything to get your hands on Starstream… and that you’re just a pretty face playing the game,” Vince continued. “They’ll tear you apart with that narrative.”
Cordy sighed, finally glancing up from her phone, meeting Vince’s gaze. “I’ve heard worse. You think I care about what they say?”
Vince opened his mouth to speak, but Cordy raised her hand, silencing him. “No one knows what it takes to get to the top. Not Kyle. Not the public. Not anyone.” She leaned forward slightly. “This was never about the clothes, Vince. This was about control. This was about making sure no one could decide my fate except for me.”
Her eyes hardened as she locked them on Vince. “You want me to react to the scandal? Fine. But not because of the damage it’s causing right now. I’m not doing it for anyone but myself. And I’ll win—no matter what. Let them think what they want. I’ll show them.”
Vince could only nod, though the unease hadn’t fully left his face. He knew Cordy’s strength, but this was a different kind of battle. The public’s anger was a force he wasn’t sure even she could control.
As Cordy’s mind whirred with plans, one thing was clear: she wasn’t backing down. The backlash could burn her, but she would fight back with everything she had. Starstream wasn’t just a business; it was a battleground where she had fought for every inch of success. And if she had to destroy those who tried to tear her down, so be it. They would see how far she was willing to go.
But first, there was Kyle—the man who had turned on her, who had taken everything and twisted it into an attack. She had been betrayed, and now, she would make sure he paid for it. And, if Noel had a hand in this? Cordy’s vengeance would be all the sweeter.
She picked up her phone again, eyes glinting with determination. There was work to be done.
