Chapter 61
Fabian swallowed hard, his face reddening under Cordy’s unrelenting gaze. He shifted uncomfortably in his seat, clearly taken aback by her sharp words. Cordy had always been direct, but today she was especially unforgiving. Her frustration with the situation was palpable, and she wasn’t about to let anyone off the hook—not when the company’s success, and her position as the new leader of Starstream Group, were on the line.
“I’ll… I’ll handle it, Ms. Sachs,” Fabian stammered, clearly trying to recover his composure. “I’ll do everything I can to resolve this issue immediately.”
“Good,” Cordy replied coldly, her tone not leaving room for further excuses. “I’ll be expecting results. No delays.”
She stood up abruptly, signaling the end of the meeting. Her patience was thinning with every passing day, and the pressure of managing a company still under the influence of her father’s old allies was weighing heavily on her shoulders. Simon Sachs had left a legacy of incompetence and manipulation, and Cordy was determined to dismantle it, piece by piece. But it was a slow process, and not without its setbacks.
As she left the conference room, Cordy felt the familiar weight of responsibility pressing on her chest. She didn’t have time to dwell on her frustrations, though. There was still so much to be done—launching the new fashion line, finalizing the endorsement with Zoe York, and navigating the complex politics of Starstream.
But as she made her way back to her office, her phone buzzed with a message, disrupting her thoughts.
It was from John: We need to talk.
Cordy paused in her tracks, her fingers hovering over the screen. After the cold way she had shut him out the last time they’d met, she had expected him to give up—yet here he was, reaching out again.
Her thoughts immediately went to the last time he had appeared at her door in the middle of the night. The look in his eyes had been so raw, so different from the man she had known before. But even with all that, Cordy had closed the door on him. She had convinced herself it was for the best.
But now, with this message, that old feeling of uncertainty crept back. Was it really over? Or had she pushed him away because of her own insecurities?
She let out a frustrated sigh, pushing the phone back into her bag. No matter what she felt, there was no room for personal distractions—not when the future of Starstream was at stake.
But deep down, she knew this wasn’t something she could ignore forever.
After a moment’s hesitation, Cordy decided to focus on the task at hand. There were still too many fires to put out, and she couldn’t afford to let herself be sidetracked by John’s reappearance. Yet as the day wore on, her mind kept wandering back to him, to the unfinished conversation, and to the complicated emotions she had been trying to bury.
She just wasn’t sure if she was ready to open that door again—or if, this time, she could trust herself enough to handle whatever might lie behind it.
