Chapter 99
The room fell into a brief hush at Cordy’s calm reply, the reporters stunned by her composure. It wasn’t the reaction they had expected—most people would have buckled under such intense scrutiny, but not her.
“I didn’t interrupt any of you,” Cordy continued, her voice unwavering, “so I expect the same courtesy in return.”
The journalists exchanged uneasy glances, some momentarily put off by her boldness, but others, sensing the tension in the air, eagerly awaited her response.
After a long, charged pause, Cordy leaned slightly forward and addressed the crowd, her gaze steady. “Yes, there have been rumors, accusations, and speculations about my personal life. But I am not here today to engage in a public trial or to defend myself against lies and twisted truths. I’m here to talk about facts—about Starstream Group and the direction we’re going.”
She glanced at Noel briefly, then returned her attention to the press. “I will not let my company’s future be defined by baseless accusations or by attempts to destroy my character.”
The room buzzed again, some of the journalists nodding in approval of her professional demeanor, while others remained skeptical.
“Do you seriously believe that, Ms. Sachs?” one reporter pressed. “Your personal life has directly affected Starstream’s reputation, and now you’re telling us it has nothing to do with the company’s downfall?”
Cordy didn’t flinch. “My personal life is mine to handle. But Starstream Group, this company I’ve built, is not defined by my mistakes or my relationships. It’s defined by our values, our people, and our products. And we will rise above this scandal.”
She paused for a moment, letting her words sink in. “Starstream Group is committed to serving our customers, and we have already begun implementing a refund policy for any affected parties. That’s how we’re handling this. With transparency, with integrity, and with responsibility.”
There was a brief moment of silence, before another journalist shot their question. “What about your father’s role in all of this? Many say your relationship with him has contributed to the company’s current situation. Are you distancing yourself from the past or is this about your father’s mistakes?”
Cordy’s eyes narrowed slightly at the mention of her father, but she didn’t lose her composure. “I’ve learned a lot in the years I’ve been running Starstream. My relationship with my father is complicated, but it’s also a part of my past. What matters now is that I am the one in charge, and I will not allow anyone’s actions—past or present—to control the future of this company.”
As Cordy spoke, Noel shifted uncomfortably beside her. She could feel the weight of the journalists’ judgment in the air, their eyes shifting from Cordy to her. Noel was beginning to feel the pressure of being associated with Cordy, especially now that everyone seemed to be waiting for her to make some sort of public declaration or show of support.
But Cordy, with her usual confidence, showed no sign of breaking. She continued to speak calmly, addressing the questions with poise and keeping the conversation focused on Starstream’s recovery.
Noel’s anxiety began to mount. She had hoped that this press conference would provide some clarity, but instead, it was making her feel even more uncertain. If Cordy could stay so composed, maybe she had underestimated her sister after all.
But deep down, Noel couldn’t shake the feeling that Cordy’s success today wouldn’t be enough to change the tides. There were too many people who wanted to see her fail, too many forces working against her. The press, the investors, and even Kyle—all waiting for Cordy to make a mistake, to slip up in some way.
Meanwhile, in Kyle’s office, he watched the live stream intently, his fingers tapping impatiently on the desk. Mandy, sitting beside him, was equally fixated on the screen, her expression one of judgment as she listened to Cordy’s confident answers.
“Does she honestly think she can pull this off?” Mandy muttered, a touch of venom in her voice.
Kyle didn’t take his eyes off the screen. “She’s delusional if she thinks she can talk her way out of this. No matter how composed she appears, it’s all just a matter of time before the cracks show.”
Mandy couldn’t hide the smirk on her face. “I hope she’s prepared for what’s coming next. She won’t get away so easily.”
Back at the press conference, Cordy was still in the middle of her responses when a familiar voice called out from the back of the room. “Ms. Sachs, are you truly prepared for the backlash from the public, especially considering the pressure from your investors?”
Cordy’s eyes narrowed slightly as she recognized the voice. She took a deep breath, her calm façade never wavering. “I’m always prepared for challenges. The truth doesn’t change because of opinions or threats. And as for my investors, I will address them directly. Starstream Group is not going under—it is only getting started.”
The room erupted in a mixture of murmurs and skeptical glances, but Cordy had already taken control of the narrative. Even as the questions continued, she stood firm, her resolve stronger than ever.
She was ready to face whatever came next, because this was only the beginning.
