Chapter 7
John’s fingers paused for a moment as he turned his attention to Randy’s words. The mention of Cordy Sachs piqued his interest immediately. While he had only crossed paths with her briefly, her presence had been undeniably impactful. He had seen her stand her ground, despite the immense pressure surrounding her, and he respected that.
“Yes,” John replied, his tone measured as he glanced up. “I know she’s made her move today. It’s certainly bold.”
Randy watched him carefully, sensing the change in John’s demeanor. “Do you know her well, sir?”
John raised an eyebrow, his expression unreadable. “Not personally, no. But I know of her family’s history with Starstream. She’s a force, whether they like it or not.”
Randy nodded, noting the subtle shift in John’s tone. There was something behind his words, something more than mere business interest.
“I’m sure it’ll be interesting to see how this plays out,” Randy added cautiously. “But given her circumstances, I wonder if she’ll be able to hold onto control without external pressure.”
John leaned back in his chair, his gaze distant as he thought for a moment. “Cordy Sachs doesn’t strike me as someone who backs down easily. She may be in for a battle, but she’s not one to lose it without a fight.”
Randy hesitated before speaking again. “It sounds like you might be interested in what happens next.”
John’s eyes flickered to Randy briefly, a small smile tugging at his lips. “Let’s just say I’m curious about the dynamics. Sometimes, the most interesting players are the ones who are underestimated.”
Randy remained silent, sensing that this wasn’t just about business for John. There was something more personal in his words, something about the way he spoke about Cordy. He knew better than to press further, though.
“Anyway,” John continued, shifting his focus back to the papers in front of him, “prepare for the meeting. I want to meet with the board and see how things are structured here before we make any decisions.”
As Randy left the office, John’s thoughts lingered on Cordy. There was no doubt in his mind that she would make waves at Starstream, but the real question was how she would handle everything that came with it—the betrayals, the power struggles, and perhaps even her own family’s scheming.
John leaned back in his chair, looking out the expansive window of his office. North City sprawled beneath him, full of opportunities, but also full of dangers. Cordy would need all the support she could get to navigate it—and John, for reasons he couldn’t fully articulate, felt a strange sense of responsibility to be there for her.
The board meeting awaited, but John’s mind was already drifting toward a much bigger picture.
