Chapter 77
Noel stood in the middle of her office, surrounded by irate employees, feeling the weight of the situation settle heavily on her shoulders. The shouting, the frustration—it was all piling up, and she could hardly breathe. She had walked into this meeting expecting something much less dramatic, only to find herself caught in a whirlwind of chaos orchestrated by none other than Cordy.
She had no idea what had just happened or why Cordy had decided to make such drastic changes without informing her beforehand. The reshuffle was clearly a power move, but Cordy had left Noel to bear the brunt of it. And now, even as Noel tried to explain herself to the employees, her words fell on deaf ears. No one believed her.
“Why did she do this to me?” Noel muttered under her breath as she finally left her office.
Determined to confront Cordy, she marched toward Cordy’s office, but when she arrived, she found it empty. The desk was already cleared, and there was no sign of Cordy. It dawned on Noel—this was all part of Cordy’s plan.
She felt like a pawn in a game she didn’t understand, but the reality was clear now: Cordy had outplayed her. With the reshuffle, Cordy had made sure that everyone would see Noel as complicit, leaving her to clean up the mess while Cordy moved on without a care.
Noel’s heart sank as she returned to her office. Her father, Simon, had been right about Cordy—she was a force to be reckoned with. But what did she really want? Why involve Noel in this? Was this some sort of test?
Sitting at her desk, Noel let out a frustrated sigh. She could feel the eyes of her subordinates on her, waiting for her to do something. But what could she do? It was Cordy’s game now, and Noel was stuck playing by her rules. The realization settled in like a weight on her chest.
Noel had underestimated Cordy. Now, she would have to find a way to turn the tables, or else risk being swallowed whole by the very system she once thought she controlled.
