Chapter 53
Cordy paused, her heart momentarily racing as she processed Jay’s words. The tone of his voice had changed, a subtle hint of something more than just business in his question. It was clear he was suggesting something beyond the typical professional courtesy.
“What do you mean?” Cordy asked, keeping her voice steady, even though she was starting to feel the weight of his implication.
Jay chuckled lightly, the sound warm but still slightly guarded. “I just think you might have better luck if you go through someone who’s a little closer to Zoe. You know, someone she actually trusts. I’m sure you can guess who I’m talking about.”
Cordy felt a sharp pang of realization. Of course, she thought. John.
The idea of using John to connect with Zoe made perfect sense in the context of their professional and personal circles. After all, John and Zoe were both powerhouses in their own right, and their paths likely crossed often in the world of high-profile business and celebrity. But the mere thought of relying on John for something like this stirred something inside her. She had always tried to keep her professional life separate from personal entanglements, but now, the lines between the two seemed more blurred than ever.
“I see,” Cordy replied, her voice a little softer than before. “I hadn’t thought of that.”
Jay’s tone softened as well, his words almost teasing. “Well, if you don’t mind taking that route, I’m sure John could help you make a much smoother introduction. But it’s up to you. I’m just offering options.”
Cordy was silent for a moment, weighing her options. On one hand, Jay’s offer was professional and straightforward. On the other, going through John felt like inviting a complication into an already delicate situation. She wasn’t sure what the fallout would be, but she also knew that if she wanted Zoe York to become Starstream’s brand ambassador, she needed to act fast and decisively.
“Thank you, Jay,” Cordy said, her voice resolute. “I appreciate your help. I’ll think it over.”
“No problem at all,” Jay replied, his voice warm again. “And if you need anything else, don’t hesitate to ask.”
Cordy ended the call and set her phone down, the decision looming before her. She leaned back in her chair and closed her eyes for a moment, collecting her thoughts. She knew what she had to do—it wasn’t about personal feelings or relationships anymore. It was about securing the future of Starstream, and sometimes, that meant making bold, sometimes uncomfortable moves.
She reached for her phone once again, her fingers hovering over John’s name in her contacts list. She hesitated, wondering how much she was willing to allow her personal connections to influence her professional decisions. But ultimately, she knew what she had to do.
With a steadying breath, she tapped on John’s name and hit send.
Cordy: “We need to talk. I’m considering bringing Zoe York on as Starstream’s brand ambassador, and I could use your help. Can we meet?”
She hit send and set the phone down, feeling the familiar tension rise in her chest. What would his response be? How would things change if she brought John into this? She didn’t know—but she was about to find out.
