Quinn stood frozen for a moment, the memory hitting her like a sudden wave. She hadn’t thought about that conversation in years, but it was as clear as day in her mind. Zoe had been so full of youthful hope and excitement back then, talking about Jay with such innocence. But since that night, Zoe had never brought it up again. Not once.
As she watched Jay carry Zoe into the manor, Quinn’s thoughts raced. Was it possible? Could Zoe still have feelings for Jay after all these years? There was a certain tenderness in the way Jay had picked Zoe up, even though he didn’t show much outward emotion. Quinn had seen that look before—Jay had always been the protective type, especially when it came to Zoe.
But was that all it was? Protective instincts? Or was there something more to it? Quinn wasn’t sure, but the way Zoe had reacted tonight—so carefree, and then so quickly fading into a quiet sleep—seemed to hint at something deeper. Zoe had always been a bit of a mystery, and now, with all this history floating around, Quinn felt like she was uncovering another layer to their complex relationship.
Her gaze lingered on Jay’s back as he disappeared into the manor. Was he still the same guy Zoe had fallen for all those years ago? Quinn couldn’t help but wonder. And, more importantly, how had he changed over the years? Was he still the quiet, reserved figure he once was, or had he become something else entirely?

With a sigh, Quinn turned and made her way back to her car. There was nothing more to be done for the night. But the questions swirling in her mind weren’t something she could shake off easily. As she drove back to her own place, she thought about the way Jay had looked at Zoe as he carried her inside. There was definitely something there. Something unspoken.
And maybe, just maybe, Zoe wasn’t as over Jay as she liked to pretend.
