Chapter 76
The room was filled with uneasy murmurs as Cordy’s words sank in. The department heads exchanged wary glances, unsure of how to process the situation. Noel had always been known to have a close relationship with Simon, and the idea of her taking charge of production seemed to further complicate the already tense atmosphere at Starstream Group.
Cordy, however, remained calm and composed, showing no hint of regret or hesitation. Her decision was clear, even if it was baffling to others. She knew that her authority was being questioned by her own staff, but she wasn’t about to let that deter her. The stakes were higher than ever, and she had her reasons for appointing Noel, despite what it might seem like on the surface.
Noel, on the other hand, was now acutely aware of the scrutiny on her. She wasn’t oblivious to the undercurrents of tension in the room, but she had learned how to navigate such environments. She straightened her posture, making it clear she was ready to take on the responsibility.
“As I said, I’ll be taking over production for the next season,” Noel reiterated, forcing a confident smile. “I’m sure we can all work together smoothly. I’ve been in the design team before and know the ropes. Let’s just focus on the task at hand and ensure that everything moves forward without a hitch.”
Her words seemed to ease some of the tension, but there was still an undercurrent of uncertainty. A few of the department heads exchanged glances, knowing that Noel’s position was precarious, even with Cordy’s backing. As much as they wanted to see progress in the company, many of them had their own loyalties, and this situation had the potential to destabilize things further.
Cordy, sensing the murmurs growing in volume, decided to address the room once more. “Let’s make this clear. Noel has full authority over production, and I expect full cooperation from everyone. We’ve already had enough delays in the past, and we can’t afford to lose any more time.”
The emphasis in Cordy’s voice was enough to cut through the chatter. Her eyes scanned the room, making sure everyone understood the weight of her words. Noel’s appointment wasn’t just a test for her; it was a test for the entire team. They would either rise to the challenge or face the consequences of their inaction.
As the meeting wrapped up, the heads of departments filed out of the room, some lingering behind to speak with Cordy. Noel stayed close to the back, her mind racing with a thousand thoughts. She had just been handed a massive responsibility, and now she had to prove that she could handle it—no matter how the others felt about it.
Cordy, however, was already moving on to the next issue. Her attention was still divided between the company’s immediate needs and the personal matters that seemed to consume her life. John’s lingering presence at the hospital, his strange interactions with her, and the growing tension between them—it was all weighing on her, but there was little time for reflection.
She had made her move, and now the game had shifted.
