Chapter 78
Cordy was settling in her chair by John’s bedside, the sterile hospital room feeling oddly serene despite the chaos unfolding at Starstream. She had anticipated some resistance, but the backlash from Hank Rogers and the other employees had come faster than expected. The reshuffling had been a calculated move, one that would send ripples through the company’s power structure. She had expected the tension, the suspicion, but what she hadn’t expected was Hank’s blatant confrontation of Noel.
While she hadn’t directly orchestrated the timing, the shuffle was a brilliant strategy. It would shift the balance of power in her favor, breaking the alliances that had previously kept Simon’s hold on Starstream strong. As long as the executives remained divided, questioning their loyalty, she could maintain control. It was the perfect opportunity for her to solidify her position without drawing too much attention.
Sitting by John’s side, her phone buzzed with a new notification—a message from Simon. “We need to talk about Hank. He’s becoming a problem. Call me when you’re free.”
She sighed, rubbing her forehead. She wasn’t surprised Hank would cause trouble, but she had bigger things to manage than his tantrums. Her thoughts, however, kept drifting back to Noel. She couldn’t help but feel a slight twinge of guilt. Noel had always been an obstacle, but now, Cordy had dealt her a blow that would be hard to recover from. However, that guilt quickly faded when she remembered how many times Noel had tried to undermine her. It was time to stop thinking of family as a shield.
With a soft chuckle, Cordy muttered to herself, “It’s all for the company… for Starstream.”
Just then, John stirred, his eyes fluttering open. He smiled weakly at her, clearly still tired but relieved to see her by his side. “I thought you’d be back at the office by now, causing trouble.”
Cordy gave him a small smile, leaning in slightly. “I might be causing trouble, but I’m not in a hurry. I need to make sure things go according to plan.”
John raised an eyebrow, watching her carefully. “Things at Starstream are starting to shift, huh?”
Cordy nodded, her expression hardening. “It’s just the beginning. Noel’s about to feel the consequences of underestimating me.”
The slight tremor in her voice betrayed the confidence she tried to project. While Cordy was in control of her actions, she knew that every move she made would bring more tension. But she wasn’t about to back down now—not when everything she had worked for was within reach.
“Just be careful,” John warned, his voice low, almost as if sensing the weight of her plans. “You don’t want to burn too many bridges.”
“I’ll cross that bridge when I get there,” Cordy replied, a coolness in her voice that signified her resolve.
