Chapter 8
John sat back in his chair, his mind swirling with the strange dynamics at play. Cordy Sachs, a woman he had grown to respect, was a puzzle to him, and her refusal to meet him for dinner only added to the intrigue. Her response, polite yet firm, had caught him off guard, but it amused him more than he had anticipated. There was something undeniably captivating about her, something that made him want to understand her more deeply.
Randy, still processing the earlier conversation, hesitated before speaking. “Sir, do you think Ms. Sachs will come around eventually?”
John’s gaze shifted toward the window, his thoughts drifting toward Cordy once again. “I’m not sure. She’s independent, strong-willed. I respect that,” he said, his voice thoughtful.
Randy nodded, understanding the subtle implications in his boss’s words. There was something deeper between John and Cordy, even if it was still unspoken. Randy had been around long enough to recognize the signs of a connection that neither party was willing to acknowledge—yet.
The mention of Kyle Jessop only further complicated matters. Randy couldn’t help but notice the disdain in John’s tone when he refused to meet with him. John Levine didn’t seem like the type to entertain rivals, especially not when it came to someone like Kyle, who had his eyes set on Cordy. But Randy also knew that John had never shown any interest in a woman the way he was with Cordy, even if it was still a subtle undercurrent. It was rare to see John this invested.
“Should we prepare for the board meeting, sir?” Randy asked, breaking the silence.
John snapped out of his thoughts, his gaze refocusing. “Yes, let’s. But I want to make sure the team knows we’re not here to just participate. We’re here to take control.”
Randy couldn’t help but feel the weight of John’s words. The tension in the air was palpable, and it seemed that everything happening around Starstream, Jessop Corp, and even Cordy herself, was leading to something much bigger.
After the board meeting, John was finally able to shake off the lingering thoughts about Cordy, but they refused to leave his mind completely. Something about her seemed to have cracked open a door in his heart that he didn’t even know was there.
Meanwhile, as Kyle sat in his car, simmering with frustration after his call with Cordy, he couldn’t help but feel that things were slipping through his fingers. He had expected her to be more receptive, to soften at his offer, but instead, she had shut him out completely. And now, with John Levine in the picture, Kyle had to question his next move. He was no longer certain that Cordy was the woman he thought he knew, and that uncertainty was unsettling.
Cordy, on the other hand, felt the weight of her new responsibilities. Taking control of Starstream wasn’t just about claiming what was hers—it was about protecting it from those who would try to tear it down. Noel, Simon, and now Kyle—each had their own motivations, but Cordy knew that she had to stay one step ahead if she wanted to keep the company and her dignity intact.
She leaned back in her chair, looking at the messages on her phone. John’s text had been a strange, unexpected gesture. She wasn’t sure if she could read anything into it, but it left her with a feeling she couldn’t quite shake. Would she ever find a moment of peace amidst the chaos surrounding her? Only time would tell.
As the evening approached, Cordy prepared herself for whatever came next. The world of business, family drama, and unspoken emotions was a delicate balance, but she was ready to face it all head-on. The question was, would anyone else be ready for her?
