Chapter 90
Kyle’s eyes narrowed, a cold glint in them as he processed Noel’s words. She was right in a twisted sense—if Cordy and Starstream reached the top, they would be that much further to fall when they eventually came down. It was just a matter of timing and strategy.
But Kyle wasn’t in the mood to discuss long-term plans or let things play out on their own. His pride had taken a massive hit, and his desire for revenge had only intensified. “So you’re suggesting we wait for them to crash and burn?” Kyle growled, his frustration seeping through. “You think Cordy is going to just fall apart on her own? That she won’t be able to keep this up?”
Noel scoffed, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Please, Kyle, you think she has everything figured out? She’s an outsider in this world, and she’s bound to make mistakes. Sooner or later, she’ll slip up, and that’s when we’ll strike.”
Kyle was silent for a moment, weighing her words. He hated to admit it, but there was some truth to what she was saying. If Starstream faltered, if Cordy faltered, it would be a glorious opportunity for Jessop Corp to swoop in. They could crush her—destroy everything she had built—just as they had done with other competitors in the past.
He let out a slow, deep breath, calming his racing thoughts. “Fine,” he said finally, his voice taking on a more calculated tone. “We’ll wait. But we need to be ready. I want every possible angle covered. And you,” he turned to Noel, “you need to find out more about these new designers. I don’t care if they’re working under the radar—if it’s going to give Starstream an edge, I want to know about it.”
Noel nodded, her gaze hardening. “I’ll get you the information you need.”
Kyle stood, his fingers tapping rhythmically against the desk as he thought about the situation at hand. “You’d better, Noel. If I lose to Cordy and her little group… you won’t like what happens next.”
Noel clenched her jaw, but she nodded again. “Understood.”
After a tense silence, Kyle turned away, walking briskly to the door. But as he was about to exit, he stopped and looked back at Noel. “You’ve got one chance to make this right, Noel. Don’t waste it.”
With that, he left, slamming the door behind him.
Meanwhile, Cordy was sitting in her office, surrounded by reports and the buzz of Starstream’s massive success. Yet, even amidst all the excitement and praise, she couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off. The way Kyle had reacted to their success, the anger, the frustration—it was clear that Jessop Corp wasn’t just a competitor anymore. They were a looming threat.
She leaned back in her chair, trying to push the thoughts of Kyle and Jessop out of her mind. She couldn’t afford to be distracted now, not with everything she had worked for hanging in the balance. But she couldn’t ignore the gnawing feeling that something was coming. That someone would try to take it all away from her.
The door to her office opened, and Randy walked in with a concerned look on his face. “Ms. Sachs, I hate to bring this up right now, but we’ve received word that Jessop Corp has been doing some serious digging into our designers. They’re trying to find any weakness they can exploit.”
Cordy’s eyes narrowed as she stood up, her pulse quickening. “I knew it was too good to last.”
“We’re keeping an eye on things,” Randy continued, “but we thought you should know. They’re going to try to undermine us—especially now that we’re making waves in the market.”
Cordy felt a surge of determination. “Let them try. If they want to play dirty, we’ll show them that we can outsmart them at their own game.”
Randy hesitated for a moment before speaking again. “And what about Zoe? Should we be worried about her getting caught up in all this?”
Cordy paused, thinking. Zoe had been instrumental in the success of the autumn collection, but with Jessop Corp’s influence, she could become a target. “We’ll keep her close. Make sure she knows how to handle the pressure. But we can’t let them intimidate us. This is our moment.”
Her voice was firm now, and Randy nodded. “Understood. I’ll make sure we’re ready for whatever they throw at us.”
As he left the room, Cordy stood at the window, staring out at the city. There were battles ahead, and they wouldn’t be easy. But she was ready to fight for everything she had built. No matter what Kyle or Jessop Corp tried to throw her way, she wouldn’t back down.
