Chapter 98
Noel tried to maintain a calm demeanor, though her insides were churning with anxiety. She had expected Cordy to be nervous, to perhaps falter under the weight of the pressure, but Cordy was different. She had become someone entirely unshakable, almost as if she had already anticipated every attack, every sharp question. And yet, Noel was not so sure how this would play out. If anything, Cordy was just too composed for her own good.
The two walked toward the conference room, where the buzz of hundreds of journalists created a palpable tension. The air seemed charged, as if waiting for something to explode. As they approached the doors, Noel’s mind raced with thoughts of how she might shift the narrative in their favor—though she knew deep down, nothing would turn out well if Cordy had her way.
Inside, the room was filled with reporters scrambling to get the best angles, camera flashes flickering like strobe lights. Journalists murmured amongst themselves, excited for the spectacle to unfold. As Cordy and Noel entered, all eyes turned toward them.
Cordy gave a confident, if not somewhat enigmatic, smile as she made her way to the podium. She took her seat with the grace of someone who had done this countless times before, as though she had already mapped out every response in her head.
“Thank you for coming,” Cordy began, her voice clear and steady. “I know the last few days have been difficult for many of us, but today, I want to make sure that everyone hears the truth.”
Noel stood at her side, but her gaze flickered nervously over the crowd. She had hoped Cordy would soften her approach, perhaps admit some responsibility to lower the temperature in the room. But as Cordy stood there, poised and resolute, Noel began to realize just how far her sister was willing to go to control the narrative.
The questions came fast and furious as the journalists practically jumped over one another to ask their first round.
“Cordy Sachs, you’ve been accused of mishandling your company’s operations and letting your personal relationships affect Starstream’s business decisions,” one reporter called out. “What do you say to the claims that your actions have damaged the company’s reputation beyond repair?”
Cordy didn’t flinch. “I will not deny that mistakes were made,” she began, maintaining eye contact with the crowd. “But I will also say that the accusations thrown my way have been exaggerated and are based on a mix of malicious intent and personal grudges. I am here today not to defend myself, but to defend the future of Starstream Group. We will emerge from this scandal stronger, because we have the right people, the right values, and the right leadership.”
Another reporter shouted, “But aren’t you aware that some of your investors are already pulling out? With the refund policy in place and mounting pressure, do you honestly think your company can survive?”
Cordy took a moment, letting the question hang in the air before responding with complete assurance, “Starstream Group is not just a company. It is a vision. We are committed to our customers, to our employees, and to the integrity of our business. While financial losses are inevitable in times like these, I will not back down. I have a responsibility to ensure this company’s survival, and I will do whatever it takes to make sure Starstream thrives.”
The press room fell silent for a moment. The way Cordy carried herself, so confident in the face of adversity, was almost magnetic. It wasn’t just the words—it was the tone, the unshakable belief behind them that made her seem unstoppable.
Noel, standing at the side, felt a twinge of something—a mixture of unease and awe. She had never seen Cordy like this, and for a fleeting moment, Noel wondered if this might truly be the turning point, not just for Starstream, but for her sister as well.
“How will you deal with the public’s perception?” another reporter asked. “After all, the scandal isn’t over yet. How do you plan to rebuild your image?”
Cordy smiled lightly. “Perception is powerful, but it is not the truth. My actions will speak louder than any headline. Starstream’s future is not determined by the past, but by the steps we take now. I have already put plans into motion to address customer concerns, and we will continue to be transparent and honest about every decision we make moving forward.”
The room buzzed with murmurs as the reporters took notes and exchanged glances. Cordy’s confidence was undeniable, and despite the mounting tension, she had yet to break.
Noel stood there, conflicted. She couldn’t deny that Cordy had a way of commanding the room, and a part of her felt a reluctant admiration for her sister’s resilience. But a darker part of her wondered if Cordy’s calm was enough to keep the storm at bay.
And in the back of the room, Kyle sat with a smirk, watching as the press conference unfolded. He had been prepared for this. He knew Cordy would come out swinging, but that wouldn’t be enough. He had his own game plan—and tomorrow, the real battle would begin.
For now, however, it was clear: Cordy was still in control, and Kyle’s attempts to break her were just beginning to backfire.
